Welcome Back

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.  I can't believe how fast the first week back went, the kids are doing great.  We have 2 more weeks, then we are off for 3 weeks for Winter Break.  We will be making gingerbread houses on December 14 in the afternoon - a flyer will be coming home this week for donations.

This next week, we will be working on reindeers, "Elf on the Shelf", working with a hundreds chart in Math, making groups of tens.  I will get sight word testing caught up this next week, thank you for being patient.

Bats, Bats, Bats

We have been working on Bats.  The kids made the cutest bats and we hung them in a cave on the outside bulletin board.  It is so cute to hear their reactions, every day, as they walk by the board.  We had lots of bat related activities to go along with the art project.

Some important news:

* Today, Thursday,  is the district wide disaster drill.  The kiddos will be out on the playground for about an hour.  A paper went home yesterday talking about it.

*  Parent conferences start tomorrow, 10/19.  Students get out of school at 12:19, tomorrow and all of next week.

*  We go off track on 10/26 and return the Monday - after Thanksgiving.

*  My new grand baby is due any day now.  If she doesn't have him this weekend - they will induce her on Monday night.

Assessments

Our Language Arts assessments are now finished.  It took a little longer than usual.  Part of the assessment is whole group and the other part is individual.  It takes awhile to test all 29 students.   Overall, the kids did great.  This week we start our Math District Assessment, which is whole group.  I will, probably, not get to do sight word testing for a few days.  Thank you for being patient.  Your kids rock.

Monet

We are very lucky that our PTA pays for our "Art Smarts" program.  I am very grateful to them, because I feel like this is a wonderful program that benefits our school.  This time the kiddos learned about Monet.  The finished products were wonderful.  I am so happy  I took pictures of the steps.

Second Week

We made it through our second week, the kids are amazing - especially with inclement weather all week.  We had our very first spelling test and math test on Friday.  The kids did really good, I am super proud of them.  We read two stories out of our Language Arts books.  Reviewed the sounds of m, t, and c.

We started our color review with the color red. We did a whole class read of  "Mary Had a Red Dress" then they completed a writing page for a class book.

The Mystery Reader calendar is up - just click on the Mystery Read tab at the top of the page to see what dates are available.  Please, email if you would like one of the dates and the book that you will be reading.  Thank you.

Are you kidding me?

Yup, that is what one of my sweeties said to me on Monday.  We had just come in from lunch and 4 of my little darlings put on their backpacks (he must have been morning Kinder).  I told them that it wasn't time to go home yet.  One of them responded with, "are you kidding me"?  Sorry babe, if I have to stay - so do you.  It was the cutest thing.  I think I was asleep an hour before most of them were.  A very busy day.

I love my class, they are adorable.  We have been busy learning about the rules in First Grade.  On Monday, we read about a little boy named David that was going to school and learning about the rules.  Ask your child the difference between a Peacemaker and a Peacebreaker.
We made our own David and they each wrote about one class rule.  In the afternoon, we made Jitter Juice to get rid of any of their nervousness about first grade.  They loved it.

We wrote about how we got to school the first day and who brought us.

On Tuesday, we added a little bit more of our first grade routine, talked about the rules, again.  We read "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom", a favorite from Kinder.

They made their own coconut trees with their names climbing to the top.  I love this activity.

Wednesday was a review of the rules and more talking about what a Peacemaker looks like.  I was able to add more of the daily routine to our day. We read "Pete the Cat", they love it.  Well, actually they love the song - we sang it 4 times, adorable.  Have a great evening.

The First Three Days

For the first three days of school, you will be able to walk your child to the blacktop.  There will be a table at the front of the school - sign in, get a name badge - then you will be able to take them to our line.  We are #133.  When the bell rings, I will walk the children in the building.   Please give your child a hug and a kiss.  It will be easier for them and you.  The longer parents hang around, the harder it is for your child.  Trust me (if they are crying), they will stop after a few minutes of entering the building.   Parents are not allowed in the building per school policy.

Can't wait to see everyone on Monday.
